The CitySwoon Story

CitySwoon began with a question Louise often asked herself when she was single and standing in a crowded bar: out of everyone here, who might I genuinely connect with?

What if technology could identify the people in the room who were most likely to suit each other, and then step aside and let them meet naturally?

Louise was a software engineer working in investment banking, while Brett brought experience in finance and business. Together, they saw an opportunity to use data and technology to solve a very human problem.

Online dating had made it possible to see more single people than ever before, but not necessarily to form more meaningful connections. Too often, it encouraged quick judgements, endless browsing and conversations that never became dates. Louise and Brett believed technology could do more: help people identify genuine compatibility and move towards a real connection, whether online or face-to-face.

That idea became CitySwoon. A dating platform combining real-life events with a more thoughtful online dating experience.

At each event, our matching technology works quietly behind the scenes, introducing guests to a series of compatible people in the room. The technology handles the introductions. The people decide whether there’s chemistry.

Online, CitySwoon is designed to go deeper than quick, surface-level swiping, helping people get a better sense of one another and discover more relevant matches. Years of matching people face-to-face have also taught us about compatibility in practice, not only what people say they want on a profile. Those insights help us continually improve how people are matched online.

CitySwoon launched by setting a Guinness World Record at the Sydney Opera House. Since then, it has grown to more than 30 cities around the world and helped create more than 800,000 real-life dates.

Some of those dates are simply part of a great night out. Others lead to second dates, relationships, engagements and marriages. Hearing that two people met through CitySwoon and went on to build a life together is still the best part of what we do.

CitySwoon was built on a simple belief: technology should make dating more human, not less. It should help people spend less time searching and more time connecting, and give every promising connection the chance to begin.
