FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE BY CITYSWOON.COM
Love was most certainly in the air, Friday night on Sydney Harbour, as 712 singles opened their hearts and tried their luck with a match-made date at the Opera House, smashing the world record of Biggest Blind Date and looking to set a brand new Guinness World Record for Australia.
It’s not every day you get the chance to break a Guinness World Record, and find love at the same time – in fact, it’s more like a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing.
But on Friday February 21st 2014, hundreds of lucky Sydneysiders did just that.
The event, held by innovative matchmaking site CitySwoon.com, and hosted by dating guru and radio princess Bianca Dye, saw 712 single Sydney-siders dressed to kill and swooning at the sight of one another as they packed out the gorgeous Northern Foyer of the Sydney Opera House for a night to remember.
“The Guinness World Record for the most couples to participate in a dating event was set on September 7th 2013, in Chicago Illinois, and it was 327 couples,” says Louise. “We had a record breaking 350 plus!”
It was a night to remember, with hundreds of unexpectedly successful blind dates happening all at once. Romance was palpable as couples chatted everywhere, enjoying nibblies from Aria, sipping champagne, and gazing out over the starlit harbor and bridge.
“I’m so excited to have been a part of such a history making event!” says Bianca Dye, “Some couples even left holding hands! The night was an hilarious success! Who knew there were so many fabulous, brave, single people in Sydney? Can’t wait to hear about future proposals from the world’s biggest ever date night!”
“On Friday night, we really changed people’s lives” says Louise O’Connor, CitySwoon matchmaker, “they made Australian history, being part of the Guinness World record attempt, and maybe starting something more! I cannot tell you how thrilling it was to walk around that room knowing that some of the people in there were really hitting it off!”
In just three months since launching CitySwoon, Louise has set up matches on hundreds of dates, but after last night she’s cracked the thousand!
In order to verify the record, the mass date was videotaped throughout and watched over by 17 independent officials. All the evidence will be sent to Guinness and announced later this week. Fingers crossed!
After the date, the happy couples made their way to York Keller to dance the night away at the after party. “There were definitely some bonds formed – but we don’t like to kiss and tell!” says Louise with a smile.
